📸 Alamut Castle is registered on UNESCO’s World Heritage List

Alamut Castle and its related fortifications, located in Qazvin Province, have been added as the 30th Iranian tangible cultural heritage site to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The 48th meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in the city of Busan in South Korea, approved the registration of this historic castle on the World Heritage List.

This castle, dating back to the 5th century AH, served as the headquarters of Hasan Sabbah, the founder of the Ismaili rule, and became widely known due to his military activities.

Alamut Castle, which covers an area of more than 20,000 square meters, is located atop a high rock with an elevation of 2,163 meters above sea level in the northeast of the village of Gazerxan, in the Alamut region of Qazvin.

This historic castle was registered in 1381 in the list of Iran’s national monuments.
