Al Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported heavy clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis in the Al-Maqatara area, located in the north of Lahj Governorate and the south of Taiz.

According to this report, the Houthis attacked the positions of government forces from three directions, attempting to take control of the Al-Maqatara area and to advance toward Tuwalbahah in Lahj Governorate. Government forces also entered the fighting to counter these attacks. No confirmed figures on casualties have been released yet.

These clashes come as part of ongoing military tensions between the Houthis and Yemen’s government forces in border areas of Taiz and Lahj governorates. The Al-Maqatara area has been among the disputed areas between the parties involved because it lies along the communication route connecting these two governorates.
