Abbas Araghchi, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, reported on his Telegram channel that on Tuesday evening he spoke by phone with Andrii Sybiha, the foreign minister of Ukraine.
The call took place hours after Gideon Saar, Israel’s foreign minister, spoke by phone with Sybiha.
Israel’s foreign minister said on the social media platform X that in the conversation he discussed the challenges facing the two countries, including threats from the Islamic Republic.
Sybiha, Ukraine’s foreign minister, announced that he called Araghchi to arrange a “direct conversation.” He said the call included discussions about the Iranian sailor who was killed in an attack on a ship in the Caspian Sea, and he emphasized that Ukraine’s actions are aimed at defending against Russian attacks.
Sybiha also said that during his call with Araghchi, he stressed the necessity of avoiding escalation of tensions and bringing an end to the Islamic Republic’s support for Russia.
