A woman sentenced to death in the U.S. survived after two injections of lethal substances
🔸 Prison officials in the U.S. state of Tennessee say Krista Pike, who was sentenced to death more than three decades ago over the killing of one of her classmates, survived after two doses of lethal substances were injected.
🔸 Her execution was set for the evening of Wednesday, October 8, and would have been the first execution of a woman in Tennessee in more than 200 years.
🔸 Pike was sentenced to death for her role in the torture and killing of 19-year-old Colleen Slimer in Knoxville in 1995.
🔸 In January 1995, when she was 18, Pike, along with her 17-year-old boyfriend and another person, lured Slimer, who was a classmate at the “Job Corps” vocational training center in Knoxville, to a wooded area, tortured her, and killed her.
🔸 The violent nature of the killing, including taking part of the victim’s skull as a keepsake, had widespread coverage in U.S. media at the time.
