🔸Russia has warned NATO that if the alliance takes action to sever the Kaliningrad region’s connection with other parts of Russia, Moscow will be ready to use nuclear weapons.
🔸Kaliningrad is a region belonging to Russia on the Baltic Sea coast, separated from the country’s main territory by about 650 kilometers and located between Poland and Lithuania, both NATO members.
🔸Reuters reported on Wednesday, Mehr 8, that the warning was sent to NATO in an unofficial diplomatic document, in which Moscow said that any attempt to “isolate” Kaliningrad could lead to direct conflict and even attacks on decision-making centers in NATO member countries.
🔸NATO confirmed receipt of the document and said the alliance’s activities and exercises are not a threat to Russia. A NATO spokesperson also condemned the “threat to use force” and “irresponsible nuclear rhetoric.”
🔸The warning was issued as tensions between Russia and European countries have increased, with both sides accusing each other of escalating security threats.
