🔶 Iran Foreign Ministry Parliamentary Director General: IAEA resolution lacks legal standing

Hossein Noushabadi, Iran’s Foreign Ministry parliamentary director general, criticized the resolution of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency against the Islamic Republic and called this document devoid of legal standing.

The 35-member Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency on Wednesday, 18 Shahrivar (9 September), concluded that Iran had not complied with its safeguards obligations and, as a result, by adopting a resolution, referred the matter to the UN Security Council.

The former member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the parliament said in this regard on Sunday, 22 Shahrivar, in an interview with the Defense Ministry news agency (DefaPress): “This resolution, which was adopted on the proposal of the United States and three European countries, lacks legal standing and is at odds with the Agency’s duties and missions.”

Noushabadi described the IAEA’s alleged lack of access to Iran’s nuclear facilities and the adoption of this resolution as, in principle, lacking any “technical and legal relevance.”
