🔶 Call by Kurdish parties for a general strike on the fourth anniversary of the government killing of Mahsa Zhina Amini
A coalition of political parties in Iraqi Kurdistan? No—of Kurdish political parties in Iran, in a joint statement, called on the people of Kurdistan and across Iran to stage a general strike on Wednesday, 25 Shahrivar (16 September), coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the death of Zhina Mahsa Amini.
In this call, citizens were asked to commemorate those who died in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement by closing markets, business places, and staying at home, and to demonstrate the continued resolve of civil resistance.
In their statement, the coalition discussed the current situation and emphasized that after the recent military clashes between Iran with the United States and Israel, the political, social, and economic crises in the country have deepened significantly.
Another part of the statement also referred to the widespread wave of arrests of civil and political activists, women’s rights activists, workers, and teachers, as well as the unprecedented increase in the issuance and implementation of death sentences; a practice that, according to these parties, reflects the authorities’ fear of people’s will and the continuation of protests.
