While U.S. President Donald Trump has asked Ukraine to reach an agreement to end the war, Steve Witkoff, the United States’ special envoy, will meet with Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, a day after his negotiations with Volodymyr Zelensky.

Reuters, citing a U.S. official, reported that negotiations between Witkoff and Jared Kushner with Zelensky in Oslo were “constructive” and focused on security guarantees for Ukraine, the post-war economic plan, and the security structure of Europe.

The official said Witkoff is seeking to set the stage for direct trilateral negotiations and wider multilateral talks.

Zelensky also said the United States will again provide Ukraine with early warnings about Russian missile attacks, and the two sides have discussed security guarantees “similar to Article 5” of NATO.

At the same time, Kyiv has requested Patriot interceptors, but Pete Hegseth, the U.S. secretary of defense, has not confirmed Ukraine’s recent requests. Trump also said: “Ukraine has to want to end this war.”
