Reuters, citing three senior officials of the Islamic Republic and an informed source, reported that Tehran believes “Donald Trump is ready to break the deadlock in the eight-month war and resume military attacks.”
One of these officials told Reuters: “Iran is preparing for a resumption of attacks by Israel and the United States, not for an agreement with the United States aimed at ending the war. The clerical leadership is determined to prevent Trump from achieving political victory.”
The agency wrote, citing these sources, that “given Tehran’s refusal to offer concessions that this country believes could, politically, benefit Trump, the chances of achieving a major breakthrough in the talks before the election are slim.”
Reuters also wrote: “One of the Iranian officials said that Tehran’s view that Washington cannot be trusted to adhere to diplomacy stems from attacks that disrupted previous negotiations.”
