Voting in Brazil’s presidential election has begun – more than 158 mln Brazilians are eligible to vote, with 12 candidates running for president.

The leading contenders are incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who are polling at 45-48% each in a potential runoff. Preliminary results are expected shortly after polls close, and a runoff will be held on October 25 if no candidate wins more than 50% of valid votes.
