🔺UN points to killings of thousands last year: Islamic Republic: stop executions immediately

▪Independent UN experts, citing the killings of thousands of defenseless people in last year’s protests in Dey, urged officials of the Islamic Republic to immediately halt all executions and warned that, relative to its population, Iran has the most numerous executions in the world.

▪These experts called for the immediate suspension of executions as a first step toward abolishing the death penalty, commuting all death sentences, and reviewing every single case based on fair trial standards.

▪The statement has been signed by 14 independent mechanisms of the UN Human Rights Council; including the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, and the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief.
