Ukraine is seeking to stay safe from Russian drone attacks, following the transfer of customs inspections of its export trucks into the territory of neighboring countries within the European Union.

Citing informed sources, the Financial Times wrote that Ukraine is discussing this transfer with Poland and Slovakia. Long lines of trucks carrying agricultural products at the border have been targeted by Russian drones repeatedly in recent weeks.

Heorehiy Tykhy, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the reason for this move is «a new security environment in which Russia is deliberately trying to breach our borders and disrupt transportation and cargo movement».

Ukraine previously created joint border-control points with Moldova and wants to finalize an agreement with Poland as soon as possible.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian customs service announced that more than 1,200 trucks at a crossing in Volyn Oblast were waiting to enter Ukraine.

Taras Vysotsky, Ukraine’s Minister of Agriculture, said that drone attacks on Ukraine’s largest ports and ships have reduced agricultural exports by about half.
