🔻The United Arab Emirates has launched an investigation into a possible attempt by a co-pilot to bring down an aircraft that was traveling from Dubai to Israel. The co-pilot—whose name has not been disclosed—remains under interrogation and review in Saudi Arabia, where the plane made an emergency landing.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, said he believes the suspected individual will be transferred to the UAE, and that Israel may also take part in the investigation process. Mr. Netanyahu added that it is too early to comment on whether there are any signs of Iranian involvement.
The Flydubai plane crashed more than 17,000 feet (5,200 meters) on Wednesday after about two hours into its flight, before passengers and crew overpowered the attacker, regained control, and made a safe landing.
The stabbed pilot, Captain Smitha Machchhar, an Indian national, is in hospital in stable condition and has been praised by Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, as a “true hero.”
