Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, said the United States is entering a new phase of economic pressure on the Iranian government and that sanctions and economic pressures will be Washington’s next step toward Tehran.
Johnson said preventing the Islamic Republic from obtaining nuclear weapons has been one of America’s main goals for years, and that Donald Trump, the U.S. president, is trying to resolve the Iran issue and ensure Tehran does not gain access to nuclear weapons.
He also said that U.S. allies can help to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz and other waterways and to keep the flow of trade going. Johnson also linked regional disruptions to higher fuel prices.
