Ismail Baghai, the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, in a post on X, referring to the “economic operations” of the Trump government against the Islamic Republic, warned that accepting economic sanctions together with a naval blockade could lead to “complete erosion of national sovereignty.”
He wrote: “No government has the right to compel banks, enterprises, or foreign airports—each of which is under the exclusive jurisdiction of its own sovereignty—to refrain from lawful trade with a third country. Economic intimidation whose aim is to force an independent government to change its lawful policy options is a crime and an internationally unlawful act.”
