Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan began his one-day trip to Saudi Arabia on Friday to meet with the country’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The Turkish Presidency said that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also be present at the meeting. Sharif arrived in Riyadh on Thursday, and Aasim Munir, Pakistan’s army commander, is accompanying him.

Earlier, Reuters reported, citing two regional sources who are directly informed about the matter, that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are expected to sign a joint defense agreement in Riyadh on Friday.

Turkey and Pakistan have recently joined a Saudi-led coalition to secure navigation in the Bab al-Mandeb strait and the Red Sea. Over the past few weeks, Yemen’s Houthis have increased attacks on ships and, the day before yesterday, carried out bloody attacks on Saudi Arabia and on the army of the Yemeni legal government, resulting in 11 people being injured in Saudi Arabia and more than 30 Yemeni government forces being killed in the provinces of Marib and Hadhramaut.
