The White House announced on Friday, Mehr 24, that U.S. President Donald Trump, by issuing an executive order, has suspended the implementation of part of the sanctions, restrictions and tariffs provided for in the law known as the “Russia and Iran Sanctions.”
The decision was made two days before the deadline for the implementation of the new regulations. In his order, Trump stated that he has determined that waiving the implementation of these measures is in the national interests of the United States and has submitted the corresponding certification of this decision to Congress.
The Russia and Iran Sanctions law, which is named after Lindsey Graham, was signed by Trump on September 18, 2026.
In addition to sanctions against individuals and entities linked to Russia, the law also provides for imposing heavy tariffs on imported goods from countries that continue to purchase Russian oil and gas or help to circumvent this country’s sanctions.
Under this law, it is possible to apply tariffs of up to 100 percent on imports from the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas.
