The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced that due to the war in the Persian Gulf, the Black Sea, Ukraine, as well as weather conditions, global food prices have reached the highest level in the past three years.

The organization said that the “Food Price Index” in Tir [July 2024] was, on average, 131.1 points, which is the highest level of the price index since the month of Dey [December] 1401.

FAO attributed the increase in the grain price index as the main factor behind the upward trend in global food prices in Tir and stated that this increase “was itself driven by a 5.8% rise in the price of wheat” due to disruptions in exports from the Black Sea region and also due to the heat.

The organization cited the increase in crude oil prices following the escalation of the war in the Persian Gulf as among the important factors behind the rise in global food prices, including for vegetable oils, red meat, and dairy products.

FAO believes that the overall figure of the Food Price Index is still 18.2% lower than in Esfand 1400, and at the beginning of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.
