The seventh round of direct talks between Israel and Lebanon began on Tuesday in Rome with U.S. mediation.
The Trump administration considers these talks part of its plan to disarm Hezbollah, deploy the Lebanese army in the south, and withdraw Israeli forces in phases. The previous round of talks was also held in Rome last month.
At the same time as the talks began, the Lebanese army announced that it had seized a shipment containing 122-millimeter Grad rockets that had been smuggled from Syria. The vehicle carrying the two smugglers was also seized, and in a subsequent operation against other members of the network, additional munitions and military equipment were discovered.
Previously, Syria’s Internal Security Directorate had also reported the discovery of hidden Grad rockets in the village of Al-Hara in the Daraa province, near the Israeli border.
