The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that two oil tankers collided with mines while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and caught fire.
In a statement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps published on Friday, it was claimed that the two oil tankers “shut down all their navigation and detection systems and were trying to exit the Strait of Hormuz via an unauthorized route with U.S. support, which, after hitting mines, caught fire, and then stopped.”
According to this claim, one of the ships collided with a mine in the eastern area of the Strait of Hormuz, and the other inside the strait.
The claim by the IRGC cannot be independently verified, and no independent maritime sources have yet released reports on the matter.
On October 28, the U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, wrote in a post on the X network that the reports by “media under the control of the Islamic Republic” about commercial vessels colliding with mines in the Strait of Hormuz were incorrect, and stated that all the main and international routes of the strait have been cleared of mines.
