The head of the Islamic Republic government will travel to New York on Tuesday to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Habibollah Abbasi, Director General of Public Relations at the Office of the President, said in an interview with IRNA on Monday that Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to New York tomorrow.

The U.S. State Department had approved on September 26 the visa for the main delegation of the Islamic Republic to attend the General Assembly.

The spokesperson for the ministry said: "Within the framework of the United States’ commitments as the host country, the main delegation of Iran’s government will be allowed to participate in the General Assembly at a high level."

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said on Sunday on Fox News that he is “likely” prepared to meet Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

The trip takes place as Qatari mediators, according to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are exchanging proposals between the United States and the Islamic Republic so that negotiations between the two sides can resume.
