The Guardian newspaper, on Saturday, 25 Mehr, citing sources in Yemen, reported that the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have agreed to resume military cooperation against the Iran-backed Houthis.

Under this agreement, the UAE will resume providing financial assistance to part of the Yemeni government forces, especially the “Al-Alaqa Brigades” in the south, and Saudi Arabia will provide air support for these forces.

The Guardian wrote that this agreement, which has not yet been formally announced, is the first tangible sign of a reduction in the deep differences between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi over the future of Yemen; differences that have gained greater importance with the Houthis’ recent advances and the increase in missile and drone attacks by the group on Saudi Arabia.

In January 2026, the UAE left its military operations in Yemen after intensifying differences with Saudi Arabia and Riyadh’s air strikes on this country’s arms shipments for southern Yemen’s separatist forces, and it stopped financial support for its allied forces.

This development comes as government forces backed by Saudi Arabia have begun a new operation to retake areas under Houthi control, including around the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Marib province. htt
