Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, said in an interview with CNBC that Washington’s economic pressures on the Islamic Republic have reached a stage where Tehran is facing difficulties in obtaining dollars and paying the salaries of its military personnel.
Bessent said: “They can’t pay their troops. More importantly, they can’t get dollars, and therefore they can’t replenish their resources.”
He added that the financial restrictions of the Islamic Republic on the groups backed by Tehran are also taking effect, and the financial resources of the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah are being cut off.
In a post on X, the U.S. Treasury Secretary wrote that, within the framework of the “economic removal” operation, the ways of financing the Islamic Republic are being eliminated and Tehran is facing problems moving money. He added that, according to reports, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is even having difficulty paying its own forces’ salaries.
Bessent emphasized that the United States is trying to limit the Islamic Republic’s ability to finance the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah.
