Sepideh Ghalyan, a former political prisoner, said on her Instagram page that a death sentence has been issued for Mahboobeh Shabani, a political prisoner held in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad.

Ghalyan, referring to the fact that she had been held in Mashhad Prison for a period of time, wrote: “I testify that Mahboobeh Shabani was innocent and has been tortured.”

Mahboobeh Shabani had previously gone on a hunger strike in protest at the prison’s improper conditions, and Iran International had reported that she was in poor physical condition and was deprived of visits and phone calls.

Based on this information, she also developed a skin illness during her detention and, to date, has been transferred between different sections of the prison about five times.
