🔻Senior Iranian official, in talks with Reuters, rejected a joint control mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz with Oman
A senior Iranian official, in talks with Reuters, has rejected the idea of a joint control mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz with Oman.
He said: “A 50-50 joint control mechanism with Oman would not provide for Iran’s interests, even though Tehran considers Oman a valuable neighbor.”
Reuters on Tuesday, citing officials in the region, reported that Oman has offered Iran a new proposal to establish a joint regional mechanism aimed at managing the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the report, the proposal would involve receiving voluntary fees from participating countries.
A source in the region, who asked not to be named, had told Reuters that Oman’s plan enjoys regional support.
