🔸Saudi Arabia said on Wednesday, the 7th of Mordad, that its armed forces, with coordination from the U.S. Central Command, carried out “targeted” attacks against Iranian-backed groups in Iraq—groups that Riyadh says it holds responsible for drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.
🔸The U.S. Central Command said the operation took place following more than 30 drone attacks in the past 72 hours; attacks that, according to CENTCOM, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had directed against U.S. forces and Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure.
🔸Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense said these attacks targeted groups in Iraq accused of attacking oil facilities in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. The ministry added that Riyadh is not seeking to escalate tensions, but will respond to any “aggression.”
🔸Iran rejected involvement in attacks on Saudi targets. An unnamed military official, on Wednesday, in an interview with Iran’s state TV, described attributing the attacks to Iran’s interests in the region to Iran as “a major miscalculation.”
