🔻 Saudi Arabia investigates the performance of its air defenses after deadly attacks on Riyadh airport
Reports indicate that Saudi Arabia has launched investigations to determine why its air defense systems failed to track the missiles and drones fired by Yemen’s Houthis.
In recent days, Yemen’s Houthis have carried out three deadly attacks on the Riyadh airport.
The Associated Press, citing two regional officials, reported that preliminary investigations suggest the Houthis first launched several drones to pave the way for cruise and ballistic missiles to pass through the air-defense barrier and hit the airport.
According to one of these officials, another aim of the investigations is to identify why no early warning was issued about these attacks by the air-defense systems.
Following the attacks, Saudi Arabia’s international airport in the capital has been shut down at least until Saturday (October 17), and airlines have suspended their flights to Riyadh.
