🔶 Rubio denies reports about leaving Trump administration to run in the 2028 election
Marko Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, has dismissed reports about leaving the administration of Donald Trump with the aim of running in the 2028 presidential election.
Rubio told The New York Times that continuing to work with Trump until the end of his presidential term has “always been his plan.”
He also said about the possibility of running in the 2028 election: “I will not speak about 2028 under any circumstances from here on.”
In addition to serving as Secretary of State, Rubio is also Trump’s national security adviser. Alongside JD Vance, he is among the figures whose names have been raised in predictions about who might succeed Trump in the 2028 election.
Two days after the U.S. midterm election, the newspaper The Independent reported that Rubio was likely to be one of several senior officials of the Trump administration who would step down from their positions to prepare to participate in the 2028 U.S. presidential election. A source familiar with the Republican Party told the newspaper that “about four to five” senior officials of the Trump administration are considering leaving their posts for a nomination in the presidential election.
In 2016, Rubio and Trump were rivals in the Republican Party during the primary stage of the presidential election, and they traded severe criticisms against each other.
