🔸The earthquake, with an initial magnitude of 7.1, cut power to thousands of homes, disrupting travel and prompting evacuation orders and warnings for aftershocks.
🔸The Japanese government issued earthquake emergency alerts for the prefectures of Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Saga, Oita, and Miyazaki in the south of the country.
🔸Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world, with at least one tremor occurring every five minutes.
