🔻Protests by students in France over school deterioration, teacher shortages, and class overcrowding that began about 17 days ago in the Seine-Saint-Denis region on the outskirts of Paris continued today as well, leaving hundreds of schools shut down fully or partially.
Édouard Geoffroy, France’s Minister of Education, announced that at least 24 schools in the unrest have suffered arson or serious damage and will remain closed for a long period.
According to officials, this situation has affected the education of more than 30,000 students.
Meanwhile, France’s National Police General Inspection has launched an investigation into allegations of severe violence by officers.
The investigation follows reports of serious injuries to protesters, including the severing of the hand of a 15-year-old teenager due to the explosion of a police grenade and a 14-year-old student’s broken teeth.
The French Ministry of the Interior announced that so far more than 6,500 people have been arrested in different cities, including Paris, Marseille, and Rennes, and that a significant number of them are minors.
