🔹I am the older sister and I often see in myself traits that are usually attributed to the first child: responsibility, conscientiousness, and perfectionism. My mother was also the firstborn in her family, and she has these characteristics. On the other hand, my younger sister is, to some extent, more carefree. Even though both of us were raised in the same family, with the same parents, and we have a close relationship, our personalities are very different from one another.
I thought to myself whether these differences could be related to our order of birth. Is there really scientific evidence that shows that being the eldest child, the youngest child, or being an only child affects our personality and the way we interact with the world?
Although this issue has attracted the attention of the scientific community and the public for more than a century, the question of whether the birth order of children in a family truly affects the formation of their personality still remains a subject of debate and disagreement.
