🔻The Nobel Institute awarded this year’s Physics Prize to Francis Halzen.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences cited Mr. Halzen’s effective services at the “IceCube Neutrino Observatory” and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos with a cosmic origin as the reason for his selection.
Mr. Halzen is a Belgian-American physicist born in 1944 who has carried out extensive research in the field of fundamental particles.
He is the distinguished professor holding the “Healdal” and “Gregory Breit” chairs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the director of the “Institute for Particle Physics” at the university.
Mr. Halzen is also the principal investigator of the “IceCube Neutrino Observatory” in Antarctica.
This large observatory is considered the largest neutrino detector in the world and began operating in 2010. 📷EL PAIS/BERNARDO PÉREZ
