Poland’s army said it has launched a preventive military aviation operation to protect the airspace of the country, on Saturday and in parallel with Russia’s attacks on Ukraine.

In a post on X, the Polish Army added that ground-based air defense systems and radar detection systems have been put on high alert.

The entry of military drones into the airspace of Ukraine and Russia’s neighbors in recent months has raised concerns about the spillover of the war to NATO’s borders.

Late Friday evening, Luxembourg airport stopped all flights after observing a drone over the airport and resumed its operations at dawn on Saturday. In Lithuania as well, a NATO fighter jet shot down a drone on Tuesday early morning.

The Moldovan Ministry of Defense said that on Monday, two drones, each for about 10 minutes, entered the airspace of the country. Germany also reported a failed drone attack on Leipzig airport.
