🔶 Parliament bill for illegal foreign residents; deportation and fines up to 10,000 euros
Iran’s Parliament representatives on Sunday, 3 Aban (25 October), during the review of the bill “Countering the infiltration of intelligence services and governments or foreign entities,” agreed to set penalties of deportation and monetary fines of up to 10,000 euros for illegal entry or residence by foreign nationals.
Under the amended Article 23, the amount of the fine is determined at the discretion of the judicial authority and in proportion to the person’s financial capacity. The registration of biometric information, including the person’s biographical characteristics, is also provided for in this article.
Illegal entry or residence that is the result of a “valid excuse” or delay in the administrative process of renewing a permit is exempt from this ruling.
This bill applies to foreign nationals who have legally entered as well, if they “take action against national security, violate public order, or carry out an activity that fundamentally conflicts with the restrictions of their visa or residence permit.” In such cases, they are subject to deportation and a fine.
The representatives also approved that the punishment for foreign nationals who commit another discretionary offense in Iran will be increased by one degree.
