🔻Pakistan’s Supreme Court, following complaints about former prime minister and jailed man Imran Khan’s improper physical condition, has ordered that he be transferred to a hospital.

A panel of three judges ruled that Mr. Khan must be transferred to the International Shifa Hospital in Islamabad for an examination within the next 48 hours.

The court also said that Imran Khan will be allowed weekly meetings with members of his family and phone calls with his sons.

Mr. Khan, 73, has been held in prison since 2023 on charges of corruption; he said that the allegations were driven by political motives.

The Pakistani government has not yet made any public comments about the court’s ruling. In its ruling on Tuesday, the panel wrote: “We are aware of our legal and constitutional obligations... to preserve the life, health, dignity and security of a detainee.”

Imran Khan’s lawyers said he is suffering from a range of physical problems, including poor eyesight, and has not had access to specialized medical care.
