One of the members of the political office of the Iran-supported Houthis told CNN that the group does not need to receive instructions from Tehran in order to escalate its clashes with Saudi Arabia.

Nassaraddin Amer called “Saudi Arabia’s aggression, and Saudi Arabia’s economic and air blockade against areas under Houthi control” the factor behind the start of attacks by the rebel group supported by the Islamic Republic.

Thursday’s attacks by the Houthis led to 11 people being injured in Saudi Arabia and the killing of more than 30 members of the armed forces of Yemen’s legal government. In the group’s attacks from the previous day, the rebel group also killed two people and injured 14 in the city of Marib, Yemen. The UN-backed government in Yemen reported on Saturday on retaliatory attacks against Houthi positions.

The Houthis have also recently carried out attacks on oil tankers carrying Saudi oil and targeted and sunk a ship flying an Indian flag.

The UN Security Council condemned the Houthis’ missile attacks on Saudi Arabia and on vessels the day before.
