🔶 Official figures; Germany’s labor market feels dependent on migrants
A new assessment by Germany’s statistics office shows that without workers with a migration background, practically nothing moves forward in Germany. In many occupations where there is a shortage of skilled labor, people with a migration background make up the majority.
The Federal Statistical Office of Germany, based on a sample survey known as “Microcensus,” announced that more than one quarter (27%) of all salaried employees in the country in 2025 have a foreign background.
Accordingly, people with a migration background are present in many jobs in Germany at even higher levels than the average. According to the agency based in Wiesbaden, these individuals made up more than half of chefs (56%) last year.
They also made up the majority of employees in food production (55%), flooring installation (54%), scaffolding (51%), and meat processing (51%).
