🔶 Greece announces the creation of a migrant deportation center in Africa

According to reports, the plan to create a migrant deportation center in Africa for migrants whose requests have been rejected by the European Union has taken clearer shape. Thanoss Plouris, Greece’s Minister for Migration, said that an agreement has been reached on a country, but he still cannot disclose its name.

Greece will hold the rotating chairmanship of the Council of the European Union for six months starting in July 2027. On Monday, September 28 (6 Mehr), Plouris told the Greek television network ANT1: “We believe that during Greece’s period of chairmanship, the necessary conditions will be in place for the deportation center to be able to begin operations.”

It is not yet clear whether the selected country has agreed to the plan and to what extent this choice has been coordinated with other EU member states.
