🔶 Number of requests for conscientious objection to military service in Germany triples
The number of requests for conscientious objection in Germany has tripled. This figure has also doubled within just the past two months. Security tensions and a new conscription law are possible reasons behind this increase.
The number of people in Germany who refuse military service on conscientious grounds continues to rise sharply.
The Vonke Group media and Germany’s editorial network, citing a spokesperson for the Federal Office for Family Affairs and Civil Society (BAFzA), reported that from January through the end of August of this year, 12,102 requests for refusal of military service were submitted to this office.
According to the Federal Office for Family Affairs and Civil Society, in all of 2025 only 3,879 requests for refusal were recorded, and in the year before that the figure reached 2,249 cases. As a result, the number of requests for refusal of military service is now three times the total for all of 2025.
