NASA’s Swift space telescope has fallen out of orbit after 22 years of operation, burning up in the atmosphere, according to the agency’s website.

The spacecraft was launched into orbit in 2004. The telescope’s primary mission was to detect gamma-ray bursts – intense emissions of gamma radiation resulting from major cosmic events, such as supernova explosions.
