Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Iran’s parliament and the country’s senior negotiator, has increasingly used English-language messages on the X platform to reach U.S. public opinion since the start of the U.S.–Iran conflict on February 28 (9 Esfand).
Especially since August, many of these messages have been published using terms and language commonly used in financial markets to make the argument that Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury secretary, and the Trump administration are unable to curb inflation and the economic disruptions caused by this conflict.
Alongside familiar narratives about Iran’s military capabilities and its leverage in the Strait of Hormuz, it appears that these posts are designed to highlight vulnerabilities in the U.S. economy and to create doubts about Washington’s ability to manage energy prices and financial markets.
