🔸Mavi Sato: Executions should not come with additional punishment for families
Mavi Sato, the United Nations special rapporteur, wrote on her page on the social network X (formerly Twitter), referring to the executions of protesters in Dey 1404: “In Iran, the consequences of the death penalty are not limited to those who are executed; their families also, both before the sentence is carried out and after it, have to grapple with the consequences of these rulings.”
In this message, referring to the execution of Alireza Sepahi, a detained protester who was executed two days ago on 13 Mehr 1405 (5 October 2026), Sato wrote: “From the time his execution was postponed due to a heart attack, both he and his family were all under the constant threat of his execution, without being informed of when it would be carried out. This wait ended on Monday with the execution.”
By pointing to the continued pressure and harassment faced by families after the execution of a member of the family, she wrote: “According to the arrangements, the body of Alireza Sepahi was not returned to his family for burial in Isfahan; rather, it was transferred to Kashan, where it is 200 kilometers away from where he lived. Unfortunately, this is not an exceptional case.”
