Mary Saïto, the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, said that the people of Iran are simultaneously under military attacks and threatened by their own government; they are threatened, arrested, tortured, subjected to enforced disappearance, and executed—an attested situation, she said, unprecedented in the two years of her mandate. Saïto added that at least 34 people were executed in connection with the January protests, and at least five of them were executed in public. She said that, in one case, 34 adults were tried within 5 days, 12 were sentenced to death, and 7 have been executed so far.
