María Corina Machado, leader of Venezuela’s opposition, returned to her country after more than 10 months in exile.
Ms. Machado wrote on Sunday on the social media platform X: “I’m here; beside you.”
Edmundo González Urrutia, the former presidential election candidate in Venezuela and an ally of Ms. Machado, also confirmed the news a few minutes later and wrote: “With joy, I announce to you that our leader, my dear María Corina, is present on Venezuelan soil.”
In Dey of last year, about a month after Ms. Machado left Venezuela and went to Norway to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, the United States detained Nicolás Maduro, the former president of Venezuela and her political rival, and transferred him to the United States.
The Trump administration then backed Delcy Rodríguez, the deputy of Mr. Maduro, as the leader of Venezuela.
Ms. Rodríguez was sworn in as interim president and then signed an oil agreement with the United States.
