Mahboobeh Shahbani, a political prisoner sentenced to death, says the death sentence has been served to her lawyer. In an audio file obtained by BBC Persian from Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, Ms. Shahbani says that several prisoners from the protests of Dey are in the women’s ward of this prison and are facing execution. She says the conditions for these prisoners are very bad and they are under psychological pressure stemming from the death sentence. In this file, Mahboobeh Shahbani asked, “Anyone who can do anything” to help these prisoners who are under pressure in harsh prison conditions. Mahboobeh Shahbani is among those detained in the protests of Dey, and she was tried in the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad on the charge of “operational action to strengthen Israel, the United States, and affiliated elements of opposition groups.” Among the examples of the criminal actions attributed to Ms. Shahbani, 33 years old, is described as helping injured protesters and taking them, with her own motorcycle, to medical centers during the protests on 18 and 19 Dey 1404.
