🔶 Liquefied gas and airplane fuel exported from Iran despite sanctions

Based on ship-tracking data and satellite images that Reuters published on Friday, October 16, Iran, despite a U.S. naval blockade, has managed to export a number of cargoes of oil-derived liquefied gas and at least one cargo of jet fuel since July.

The exports are limited compared with the past, but they show that some of Iran’s petroleum products have still been able to get around U.S. maritime restrictions—a blockade that has severely disrupted Iran’s crude oil exports.

According to an analysis by the U.S.-based group “United Against a Nuclear Iran,” at least eight ships carrying Iran’s liquefied gas left the Gulf of Oman since mid-July. Satellite images and assessments by a maritime intelligence company also indicate that an Iranian fuel tanker for aircraft reached Myanmar in September. Six of the eight gas-carrying ships, as well as the tanker carrying airplane fuel, are subject to U.S. sanctions.
