Kevin Raideout, a 50-year-old American preacher who was kidnapped in Niger, was released after about nine months in captivity.

The New York Times, citing the Christian organization SIM International, said Raideout is in good health and is under the care of U.S. officials, and will soon be reunited with his family.

The religious figure was kidnapped in Mehr 1404 by three armed men outside his home in Niamey, the capital of Niger. No group claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

At one point, it was believed he was held in Mali, Niger’s neighboring country, by a branch of ISIS, but it is unclear which group he was under the control of at the end of his captivity.

The Trump administration had put extensive efforts to find and free this American citizen on its agenda.
