Jina Romero, the UN special rapporteur on freedom of peaceful assembly and association, announced on the social media platform X that she has started a 24-hour hunger strike and said: “In solidarity with the brave people of Iran, I am joining the campaign of Tuesdays Against the Death Penalty.”
She reported on Sunday about her decision to go on a hunger strike and called for an end to executions and independent monitoring of the situation of prisoners facing execution.
On X, Romero wrote: “It is now 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 12, in Colombia; meaning it is midnight in Iran and Tuesday, October 13, has just begun. I have eaten my last meal and from this moment, I am starting my 24-hour hunger strike.”
