Jaber Rajabi, a political analyst, said that the line of thought governing part of the power in the Islamic Republic is based on the logic of “everything or nothing” and seeks to guarantee the regime’s survival by taking regional security and the economy hostage.
He added that by expanding the crisis—from the Persian Gulf to Iraqi Kurdistan and from Saudi Arabia to the UAE—the Islamic Republic believes it can force others into making concessions. According to Rajabi, the countries in the region may come to the conclusion that paying the costs of short-term confrontation with the Islamic Republic is less expensive than enduring its long-term threats.
