🔶 Jerusalem Post: Ahmad al-Sharaa is secretly strengthening the Syrian army

The Jerusalem Post reports on the focus of Ahmad al-Sharaa, the current president of Syria, on creating a strong army in this country.

According to a report by the Jerusalem Post, based on Israeli security assessments, Ahmad al-Sharaa has devoted the bulk of Syria’s financial resources—from tax revenues to international aid—to “building a large permanent army and purchasing weapons systems.”

Based on these assessments: “Instead of investing in infrastructure, rebuilding the country, or improving the living conditions of the people, who have endured 15 years of war, the Syrian government has focused on strengthening military capability and, at the same time, is trying to keep its military development strategy hidden from others.”

The Jerusalem Post has said this process is “raising concern and setting off alarm bells among Israel’s intelligence and security institutions.”

Of course, according to the Israeli army’s assessments, Ahmad al-Sharaa’s operational plans were drawn up for a time when he determines that he is able to carry out military action against Hezbollah in Lebanon—which, according to these sources, he “dislikes”—and also against “Shiite militias closely aligned with Iran in Iraq.”
